How Online Games Evolved Through Time ? Blending Thoughts

Although they became widely known in the nineties, online games have actually existed since the sixties. The advancements in online gaming technologies happened alongside advancement in computer networking technologies. That is, at its infancy, computer networks can only support text-based games and crude graphics. Over time, as the Internet continued to develop, multimedia online games have become ubiquitous.

The earliest network games were made by computer scientists and their students. They used the Arpanet and PLATO networks, which many believe are the precursors of the modern Internet. Even then, those networks were able to support thousands of users who are simultaneously playing the games that were popular in that time such as Air Fight and Star Trek.

Commercial Internet games grew rapidly in number with the introduction of the World Wide Web in the 1990s. People from all over the world were introduced to games like Doom, Quake and War Craft which to this day still have earned cult-like following. With the increasing availability of high-speed, low-cost Internet, and powerful gaming consoles and computers, modern online gaming came into existence. In the latter part of nineties, massively multiplayer online games were introduced and have since grew into a major business that attracts many developers globally. Today, social networking websites have become another platform where people can play games, effectively transforming many in the non-gaming population into avid gamers.

One kind of online game that remains very popular these days is racing online games. This gaming genre is considered one of the staples of the computer gaming world, and many of the earliest computer games were part of this genre. Online racing games usually involve controlling high-performance vehicles and the gamer’s goal is to beat his own record or compete in a race course with other players. As computers and gaming consoles become more powerful, and the Internet becomes more advanced, racing games are taken to a whole new level.

Our inherent love for cars and our need for speed are at the core of the popularity and longevity of these kinds of games. Aside from that, these games also allow us to drive our dream cars which we could not afford in the real world, and even modify them to our liking. The racing games we have today endeavor to give a much more realistic experience. For example, there are games which will give a visual representation of how it would look like if you sped up. Recent game titles even have physics engines which bring about handling issues whenever you crash your car.

There is also a number of racing online games, so getting one made for your level of skill is easy. Lastly, they provide hours of extreme fun. Regardless of your age, you will find racing games truly worthwhile.
