Avoiding sweet rewards at work ? Business Management Daily ...

How do admins avoid temptation at work?

?I?m trying to eat healthy and be more active,? writes one admin. ?But I?m in a sedentary job, and treats often appear.?

With vendors who bring in sweet temptations, birthday cake-filled office celebrations, and a vending machine stocked with goodies, she?s finding it hard to stay healthy.

Other admins shared their tips and strategies on the Admin Pro Forum:

???Tune in to messages from in-house wellness advocates. At the office of admin Amanda, a Health and Wellness Committee sponsors fitness challenges, posts a weekly healthy-eating newsletter and works to revamp the cafeteria?s menu.

The committee?s influence has sparked some departments to hand out granola bars or fruit, instead of candy bars, when giving treats. Birthday celebrations may include cake, but also healthful foods.

Tip: If you don?t have a wellness committee, ask someone in HR about what other resources may exist.

????Lobby to remove vending ma??chines. Another admin, MaryJane, asked management to remove the machines and, thus, the temptation.

???Walk whenever you can, suggests Solana.

???Import your own healthful treats. ?When you get hungry, you?re more likely to eat the first thing you find, which is usually treats your co-workers bring in or anything in the vending machine. When you have your own snacks, you don?t walk around grazing,? offers admin Chris.

???Target birthday celebrations at work. One admin writes that at her office, birthday celebrations took place for every individual?s birthday.

?Now,? she writes, ?we have once-a-month celebrations for everyone having a birthday in that month? that features real food, not just cake. Often her contribution is a big bowl of salad dressing on the side.

???Send a message up. Charlene suggested to management that it stop giving out food baskets as incentive prizes. Management listened. This year?s winners received Kindle e-readers instead.
