The iPhone can be great at parties because you?re likely to have it with you, and it can provides tons of fun without any extras. Multiplayer games are finding a nice home on iOS, and Heads Up! (not to be confused with Heads Up! Hot Dogs) is a brand new one that comes to us courtesy of Ellen DeGeneres, and Impending Software, makers of Clear. Heads Up! is all about local multiplayer face to face whether you?re playing at home with family members, or with friends at a party. The gameplay style is based on the simple game of grabbing a card, and putting it on your head, and then having others give you clues to guess what?s on your card. The original game can be played with Post-It Notes or hand written index cards, and there?s also a a board game called Hedbanz, which offers the same thing, but with more structure.

Heads Up! is the same style, but now you?re using an even more expensive card holder, your iPhone. You hold your iPhone above your head with the card displayed on it, and then your friends try to give you clues to help you guess whatever appears on screen. The card decks include celebrities, movies, accents, fictional characters, animals, and more. Each game is a 60 second rush to try to guess as many cards as you can with your friends help. You mark a card as correct by tilting your phone down, and can pass by tilting up, all while keeping the screen away from you. One neat feature is that the app can record your friends trying to help you guess, which you can then share. The entire app features the high quality design, and intuitive nature that you would expect from Impending. There are 18 different card packs, with seven available as in-app purchases for $0.99 a pop.

Heads Up! ($0.99, iPhone) is a fun, fast paced multiplayer game that can provide plenty of laughs, and enjoyment to share. The game is solely local multiplayer, but it would be nice to see an online option that uses Game Center voice chat to let others who live long distances apart share the experience.
