Grand Rapids Community College officials announced today that a new Communications director has been hired.
Leah Nixon, who will begin her work April 22, is coming from an eight-year tenure at Ferris State University, most recently as the director of marketing client services and assistant director for news services. Prior to her time at FSU, Nixon worked five years as a journalist for the Big Rapids Pioneer.
That higher education experience?is something that we?ve been looking for for a long time in a communications director, so we?re very happy that Leah chose to take the position,? said Kathy Mullins, who has been acting as the Communications director. ?It?s great to have someone who has that academic background and understands the work of higher education.?
Nixon is replacing Raul Alvarez after he resigned in November for reasons he would not discuss.
Nixon could not be reached for comment today, but said in a press release, ?Grand Rapids Community College makes an excellent education accessible and affordable. This is an especially exciting time to share all of the great opportunities GRCC offers local students.?
