Donna asks?
How do you think the internet affects interpersonal communication skills?
I am writing a paper about how people create a counterfeit self online and therefore this affects offline communication between people and also their maintenance of relationships. Any thoughts?
InterCommTeam answers:
I reject that everyone ?creates a counterfeit self online??I never have?I am who I am.
I do, however, believe that interpersonal skills have suffered a serious setback because of technology?too many people are uncomfortable with face to face interaction now because too many prefer to interface online. Society in general can?t spell to save their lives anymore?spell check is too convenient, but texting in general has butchered the English language and young people think there?s something wrong with the rest of us to notice or take offense rather than realize how stupid they appear and learn how to communicate correctly.
In the opposite direction, however, I believe for some it is easier to be honest in their relationships in type since you?re not face to face, and problems might be flushed out more quickly than avoided because of ones discomfort with face to face confrontation. It also provides a increase in the ease of keeping relationships healthy through distance or business lapses.
There are pros and cons?depends entirely on the people involved.
Mandy asks?

What subject is this course? I can?t believe that the textbooks you?ve been using wouldn?t contain this information.

Susan asks?
how can a careworker use interpersonal skills or communication skills for a single low income parent?
I?m doing an assignment for college and i?m playing the role as a careworker and i have to explain what interpersonal skills are important to me as a careworker for me to establish a relationship with the family.
InterCommTeam answers:
I think you could just start with a list of what interpersonal skills are, and go through them one by one.
Listening ? hearing where the family really is, to see what their perception of the situation is (which can be very different from reality), to be able to better judge how to help them in a way they will accept.
Speaking ? choosing your words, metaphors, arguments to best convince the family to take appropriate action
Body Language ? don?t let your face show disapproval at a situtation, or the family will get immediately defensive and not take any of your guidance
etc etc
Maria asks?
how to improve interpersonal communication skills? any good books about it?
I just find a little bit difficult to communicate with someone (my new friends, my colleagues, strangers, etc)when working or after working. For instance, when my college and I are in the same bus, we sit together but we don?t have more things to talk. There is only some greetings.I try to break this, but there isn?t any topics we can chat.I try to find out some but no. Is this my problem? how can i change it? that really bothers me!
InterCommTeam answers:
There are some books on ?Public Relations?. You can go through it.
