>> reporter: this is the parking lot where the bloodshed happened. gabrielle giffords will join others in a candle light vij as the city moves forward. in tucson, a time to remember, a day to grieve. one year ago today, six killed, 13 wounded outside a safeway when a gunman tried to assassinate congresswoman gabrielle giffords , shot in the head at point-blank range, today her recovery has been remarkable, though she has yet to fully regain speech and mobility.

>> reporter: the spray of bullets gunned down young and old. the youngest victim was only 9 years old. cr this woman, a neighbor who took christina to meet giffords, was shot three times, and watched christina die.

>> a food bank in gabi's name. gifford saw the memorial for the first time with the husband. today, first public appearance in tucson as she stands with other victims at a candle-light vigil. giffords made ab unplanned visit to the safeway yesterday. she is not expected to speak later on tonight, but her showing up is a real sign for all of the victims. janet, back to you.
